Everyday should be Valentine’s Day
61Teaching on love
On the 14th of February every year, we are urged to demonstrate our love for those around us. Well there is nothing wrong with showing our love and affection for the people we love. The question isn’t how you show your love on Valentine’s Day but rather how you show your love throughout the year. It is important to understand what love is .First it is not an abstract feeling of longing and infatuation that intensifies for certain holidays and not exist every day. In fact love is not all about what we see on television or movies.
According to the Bible, (1 Cor.13:4-8) the apostle Paul points to the fact that love (true love –agape love-) is patient, kind, without envy. True love is not boastful or arrogant. True love is not ill mannered nor does it seek its own interest. True love overcomes anger and forgets offenses. It does not take delight in wrong, but rejoices in truth. True love excuses everything, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. True love never ends. We see in this Bible verse that, in addition to being humble, love treats other people with kindness and patience and love does not get jealous. What a great description of love.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, it is important to look at these
characteristics of a loving person and ask yourself, ”Am I humble? Am I kind?
Am I patient? Not given to jealousy?" If you can answer, "Yes,"
then you are exhibiting Christ-like love. As we seek to know and show what true
love is, it’s important to look to Jesus and follow His example of selfless
love. The greatest example of love was when Christ hung on the cross. It’s time
for us to extend this love to those God has placed in our life and care not
just on Valentine’s Day but every day. God bless you.
